Within a few weeks of our second child being born I was very low and rundown and feeling tired all the time and quite lifeless. I’d seen my doctor several times, but each time was told that there was nothing medically wrong with me.
I finally went to see an alternative health therapist one day who advised me that I would likely benefit from a detox diet, and put some effort into learning how to detox your body and understand the impact of toxins on my health. It sounded like a good idea, so I spent a few weeks doing some research to learn all about it, and try to understand why alternative health therapists say it’s so popular and recommend following a detox diet and suggest getting started with the 7 day detox so strongly.
Something else she recommended I try was a detox foot patches. I have a foot spa two or three times a week now, if I have the time, but if you don’t have one of those, those detox pads can work just as well - although your don’t get the relaxing foot massage at the same time
So here’s my top tips about how to detox your body.
Drink water or herbal teas
Drinking plenty of fluid is absolutely vital while you are following a detox diet because the water will help your body excrete toxins from your system. Drinking plenty of water also has other health benefits like promoting regular bowel movements, reduce bloating, and improves your complexion. On a normal day try to drink about 2 liters of water, and a good bit more in hot weather or on your exercise days.
As a guideline, aim to drink an extra half liter of water for every hour you exercise. The healthiest type of water is filtered tap water. Keep your water at room temperature as it’s more refreshing that way. Feel free to substitute herbal teas if you can’t face all that water - loose leaf tea is the better option if it’s available. Dandelion root, yarrow, roibosch and green tea in particular are great choices as their additional properties help boost the detox process. Roibosch (Redbush) tea is especially healthy as it is rich in antioxidants.
How To Fit It All In
Fitting in 6 to 8 glasses of liquid a day isn’t difficult once you get into the habit. Have a glass of water with some fresh lime or lemon juice instead of (or as well as) your morning coffee - this is a great way to activate your metabolism and bowel then try to drink another glass each time you take a break from your work.
Have a glass before each meal, try a glass of water and a herbal tea at elevensies, another glass when you get home from work and perhaps a final glass of water last thing at night. As I mentioned above, you can replace some glasses of water with herbal teas.
The Fresher The Food The More Power It Adds To Your Health
This means choosing fresh food whenever possible and juice or blend them for maximum benefit or just eat them raw, in salads or as snacks or appetizers. When raw, food still has all its enzymes and nutrients intact. If food is kept too long, or when it is cooked or preserved, it loses a lot of its nutritional value.
Try to buy your fruits and veg locally, preferably from farm shops and local markets. Food from other countries is generally harvested before it is ripe (before it has developed its full vitamin quota) and a lot of nutrition is lost during the journey to the stores.
Is Organic Better
When you’re following a detox diet you don’t need to buy everything organic, because organic is usually much more expensive, but selecting just a few organic ingredients will be a step in the right direction.
If you can’t find or afford organic fruits and veggies, it’s not a problem. All you need to worry about is eating enough fresh foods, whether they are organic or not, instead of eating too few of them. However, there are some good reasons for concentrating on organic food on a healthy detox diet.
Organic foods are free from artificial pesticides and sprays, so they have very little or no potentially toxic man made chemicals. Organic farming is a hotly debated and controversial topic because there’s a lot of evidence that the build up of man made fertilizers and pesticides overtime may cause health problems in the future.
Organic foods are subject to a lot less processing. The end result being that organic foods are free from artificial additives and hydrogenated fats. The taste and flavor of organic food is usually much better as well.

Heartburn is a result of acid from the stomach reaching the esophagus. There are many causes of heartburn and some can be prevented just by managing meals well or wearing the right kind of clothing. There are many causes of constant heartburn; these causes include disorders of the sphincter, impaired expulsion of gastric acid from the stomach, too much muscle relaxation around the sphincter and a hiatus hernia. Another cause of constant heartburn is the damaged esophagus that makes it more sensitive to acid reflux. You can suspect that you have gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD if these symptoms are present, constant heartburn, difficulty swallowing, chronic cough, a hoarse voice, chronic earache and nausea. There are other symptoms of GERD but constant heartburn will be the most prevalent.
Having constant heartburn can not only be a symptom of GERD but it can also cause GERD itself. If you are not vigilant concerning heartburn by adjusting your diet, lifestyle and clothing, this can result to gastroesophageal disease.

Children, we need to look after them, especially now.

We have to really look after them, don’t we, but are we?
Let me explain it like this. Many maladies we adults have been putting up for years and years, are now affecting the children.
